Amber's Bio

As a young girl growing up in San Diego, Amber Ojeda was taught to look at a world without limits. This unabashed boundlessness has allowed Amber to go on to explore an endless palette of emotions through her music, and push sonic and conceptual boundaries over the course of three original studio albums, in captivating collaborations with some of the music industry’s most beloved producers and musicians, and in nearly three dozen original songs that have been featured prominently in feature films and high-rated TV shows. These include ABC’s “Mistresses,” VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop,” ESPN’s NCAA football games, and on dozens of other shows on VH1, MTV, Bravo, The Style Network, ABC, The CW, Comedy Central, Velocity and ESPN.

With her strong love of melody, Amber blends her emotive, soulful voice; sensitive, yet fearless nature; and worldly perspective to craft indelible songs that fuse Pop, R&B, Jazz and electronic sounds. Many of Amber’s songs bring to life stories inspired by intimate relationships and experiences, grounded in personal truth and development.

On her 2010 debut album, Here I Am, Amber paid homage to the sensual, raw and poignant music created by jazz and neo-soul heavyweights such as Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Sarah Vaughan and others. Amber quickly landed on the international stage following her debut album receiving a distribution deal through Japan’s own Sweet Soul Records. Evolving from there, Amber released 2012’s Space.Bar.Love. Her sophomore effort was inspired both by the need for breathing room from relationships and her love affair with space and celestial signs.

In 2013, Ojeda released The Lift, an experimental side project and sonic diversion from her solo efforts. Amber worked with Davy Nathan (Christina Aguilera, Toni Braxton) and producer/guitarist Michael Feingold (Erykah Badu, Jay Z, Joe Jonas) to create an EP of haunting and cinematic tunes.

A “lesson in contradictions,” Ojeda’s upcoming third studio album Geminis & Virgins, set to be released this summer, chronicles Amber’s journey of embracing her sexuality, conceding to her fears of commitment, and standing up for herself in adverse situations. “I’ve learned where this is conflict,” she says, “there is also an opportunity for growth and empathy.” The new album is centered around her current relationship, tightroping the line between softening into and fighting through her fear of forever.

Created over the span of two years, Geminis & Virgins is a fiercely personal and raw musical effort with long time collaborator and friend David Michael Ott (Jussie Smollett, Verdine White, Tribe Called Quest) with songs that are both honest and catchy. “I sought David for this project because when we create together, it’s seamless. We have an innate sense of knowing what the other is thinking. He pushes me to be uncomfortable and vulnerable.” Grammy Award winner Neal H. Pogue (Outkast, Nicki Minaj, Aloe Blacc) provided additional mixing on the new album.

Although mainly focused on her music, Amber has also made television appearances as both herself as well as an actor. Her most recent run was as a contestant on Bravo’s reality competition, “Platinum Hit,” in which Amber’s song “Home For Me” written with fellow contestant Jes Hudak and Melissa Rap left guest judge Natasha Bedingfield saying she could imagine herself singing it. She has also made appearances on Style Network’s “Dress My Nest,” CW’s “Veronica Mars,” and FX’s “Terriers.

With an infinite bounty of creative potential in her heart, Amber equally loves conceiving of music for other artists as well. A sought after songwriter, she is frequently called upon to write for other artists and commissioned to create vocal arrangements and lyrics for various projects.
